This is an excellent piece of software to instil awe and wonder into the young reader. It is very colourful and has excellent illustrations. The children in my class thoroughly enjoyed the accompanying book and enjoyed finding out about colour. The software has an action button that enables the text to be repeated thus enabling the children to hear the text as many times as necessary to comprehend the information given. It also enables the teacher to ask questions and to repeat the information if necessary. When listening to the text themselves they can listen to difficult concepts and watch a visual demonstration repeatedly.
The visual aids that accompany the texts are a powerful tool that helps the learner to understand how colour is made. Because they are animated the children enjoy them without really realising that they are learning a very difficult science concept.
The journey that the characters take in the text underpins the Y1 curriculum and fits into the safety theme of this term. It explains to the children why certain colours are used in a pelican crossing and why a fire engine is red.
The children really enjoyed this text and have asked to listen to it on numerous occasions. They enjoy this book both as a story as well as an animated cartoon when it is on the whiteboard. It is an excellent way to teach a very difficult concept.
