As you say, both are excellent pigments. The only reason that I decided to move from Viridian to Phthalocyanine Green was that I found that Viridian could sometimes be a little pasty when made up into a watercolour paint. Such pastiness was very slight and did not really detract from the suitability of the colour, as it disappeared as soon as water was added. Just me being a little bit picky.
