Lori Corbett was born in Soda Springs, Idaho and grew up in Pocatello, Idaho. Today she co-exists peacefully and politely with her husband, a cat and an assortment of small creatures including in a gentled squirrel, a skunk, a rabbit and birds in a small community of about 3,000 people in St. Anthony, Idaho.

Lori has always felt a kinship with animals, particularly birds. As a child, she knew she could fly if she could only convince the birds to reveal their secret. She spent hours making paper wings and tails, running and jumping, in an attempt to become airborne. Her step-father told her that if she could sprinkle salt on a bird's tail it would tell her how to fly. The secret, he said, was to be very quiet, patient and observant. Stalk and study the bird carefully. If it flew before she could salt it, watch it fly its teaching. Lori's flying experiments were curtailed and her life no doubt saved~ when her mother caught her climbing the apricot tree to the garage roof in full flight gear.

Lori Corbett has been carving birds since 1986 and is one of the most respected names in bird carvings, her work is sold primarily by commission and she has sculptures in private collections through America . She has published a beautifully illustrated book ‘Carving Award-Winning Songbirds’. This book is an extensive, one-stop resource full of expert guidance that is designed to help you succeed in bringing your songbird carving to championship level. For more information click here.

Whispering Eagle Studio

Whispering Eagle Studio offers a relaxed setting tailored for carving & painting with ample light and the intimacy of small class size. I feel that a small class means more attention concentrated on the individual. Included in the tuition fee is a continental breakfast, lunch, coffee, tea & soft drinks each day of class.

Lori also offers private lessons, either individually, or a group you organize. You can schedule a one-day or several day workshops. The classes are tailored to your specific goals, whether it be an entire project, or just focusing on specialized techniques, such as texturing or painting.

Practical Color Mixing for Carvers: 2 ½ day seminar

The concepts presented will be of enormous benefit to the carver of any skill level. And I feel strongly that these fundamentals should be learned early in the beginner's study alongside the basic carving techniques. Painting should not be feared. All colors behave in a specific and predictable manner and understanding how colors behave will significantly lessen the learning curve.

The purpose of this seminar is to teach you how to work with the pigments you already have, why (or why not) you achieve the mix you are looking to make, and how to make an informed choice of additional colors to add to your palette. This workshop does not teach how to apply paint, but how to mix your colors. If time allows, a demonstration will be given on using and applying different values to achieve realism & softness. This is a practical application of the concepts taught in the workshop.

By the end of the workshop you should be able to correctly choose your mixing colors based on your new-found knowledge of their characteristics to make the mix the color you want - every time.
