As you do not have black in your range, and I can understand why, how do I mix a black when required?

To produce a range of darks which will not sully other in an uncontrolled way, or give the appearance of damage to the painting, simply combine Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna. As the two colours absorb each others light they will give a superb range of soft velvety blacks.
