Information/Announcments
PAINTING TECHNIQUES AND MEDIUMS Wendy-Jane Sheppard’s paintings are predominately oil on canvas and she has been inspired by the master painters of the 18th and 19th century and in particular the famous painter of the horse, George Stubbs (1724-1806) and equally masterful painter of all animals Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899). Wendy-Jane places particular emphasis on creating paintings that are of the highest possible standard of excellence in oil painting techniques and specialized colour mixing and application. She also acknowledges through her work the tradition of animal painting that has for some time as a genre been relegated to a lowly position within the hierarchy of subject matter for artists to paint and viewers to consider. Wendy-Jane hopes that her artwork readdresses this misrepresentation of the wonderful art of painting animals and all that animals are and represent to artists and viewers alike.
